Gospel outfit, Friends in Christ (FIC) first introduced us to their sounds in 2017. It was edgy, contemporary and catchy; and this past weekend only proved why they are the next big thing.

The newly formed group staged their annual concert in Bedford to launch their second album Genesis, scheduled for release on all digital platforms on 9 June.

In an intimate setting, the group shared  tracks from their new album, including theme song Namata (Pray). They also sang songs from their debut album, which included Tinofamba (We Walk), sung by Sharon Manatsa. The single has been remastered and appears on Genesis.

Formed by Zex Manatsa Junior and his wife Sharon, the collective are made up of multicultural musicians and singers from different denominations.

Who comprises Friends in Christ?

This year the group comprised, Sharon Manatsa and seasoned singer-songwriter, and Flame Lily Arts lead, Tsungai Tsikirai. Other members included, Munya Mhunduru, Liethens Musoni, Sibo Kusema, Gamu Matsvai, Natasha Mangwende, Johannes Tavarwisa, keyboardist Keith Kaja, bassist Denzel Chidziva,  electric guitarist Jo Oware and Zex (Taku) Manatsa on the drums.

“The aim, since we formed Friends in Christ, has been to give talented musicians a platform to make the music they want to make,” Zex said.

“Sharon and I wanted an initiative platform that not only gave back to the community but, that also rewarded the individuals who had given their time to make this dream a reality,” he added.

The three-and-a-half hour long praise and worship concert also featured Shout Aloud, who opened the show and got a tough crowd warmed up. Heavens Mutambira was also part of the line-up, leading in soulful praise.

Jane Doka also brought the house down with some of her latest tracks, while guests also got a chance to see Obert Mazivisa’s energy packed performance that had them on their feet for the duration.

The concert was officially sponsored this year by Monique Today Magazine, More Care Energy Services (MECS) owned by Ennie Mupoto and Kudzoka.com.

“An event like this isn’t something that you do alone. We are eternally grateful to every single one of our sponsors who listened to our vision and took a chance on us, who partnered with us to make this event possible,” Sharon said

Friends In Christ have a planned tour towards the end of the year, with dates to be revealed soon.
